Thank you for this look at my industry and how it is changing. These are
the same situations, tools, and changes as NYC. Computer Aided Design is a
necessity now . But, bench skills that are being lost in the next
generation are still a necessity as well. Even if you make something on the
computer it must still be finished by hand. The CAD work is the beginning,
not the end. A CAD Designer/ Model Maker must understand the complete
process of how jewelry is made.
Thanks, I had a traditional apprenticeship in Jewelry Making in the US , to
different jewelers, after some H.S. and College level classes at 15-16
yrs.. I can render jewelry by hand, and counter sketch and have some G.I.A.
training & certification. I have had retail jewelry experience too selling
high end jewelry.I am just now feeling like I can tackle Computer Aided
Drafting for Jewelry Design , after having had experience at the bench .I
am glad because it will make me better at Jewelry CAD.
